I have been working at the Fun Park since the beginning of December; it's probably the most exciting job I have ever had. (:
Last night, USU's food services rented out the entire Fun Park and the Gutter from 6:00 to 11:00. We usually have Country Night on Mondays and Wednesdays starting at 9, so that is what I had been anticipating. I arrived just before 5, feeling tired, secretly hoping I would be assigned to skates. (Skates is almost never busy enough to have an employee stay there for a whole shift. We usually just watch to see when somebody needs to get roller skates, and we walk down there. Being assigned only to skates means you basically don't have to do anything.) When I clocked in, I was informed of the USU party, and was also told, to my great surprise, that I would be taking care of roller skates; all night long. I was relieved.
Unfortunately, hosting that kind of party means that nobody needs a wristband, and everything is free for the guests. Usually, rather than just a couple of people, big groups decide that they want to skate at the same time. They all come and get skates. Then, 5 minutes later, they all decide that they don't want to skate anymore, and they all give their skates back to me. These skates have to be sprayed and buckled, or laces tucked in, and put away. Then a little while later, the same people come back to skate some more. Guests are coming and going non-stop. This makes it almost impossible to put skates away as fast as I have to give them out. I was working frantically all night trying to keep everybody happy. It was almost comical. (: Needless to say, My night wasn't nearly as low key as I had hoped for.
But even tho it's almost never what I expect, I love the Fun Park. I get to be with kids, see old high school friends, and work with great people. It's a good sign when work doesn't actually feel like work. (:
